According to the Endocrine Society’s 94th annual meeting in Houston, Texas, diet alone and in combination with exercise improves insulin sensitivity. Just exercise does not show the same benefits. In other words, dieting is key in improving the health in people suffering from Diabetes.
Although exercise alone did not show an effect on the insulin’s effectivity short-term, when used with diet, it increased the improvement longer term. In other words, exercise has a complementary effect on weight control, but only when used in conjunction with diet.
This research is in agreement with an other recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine which suggested that a combination of weight loss and exercise provided greater improvement in physical function that either intervention alone.
